Don’t Be Embarrassed by Your Teeth

Covering missing teeth

If you have damaged teeth, recovering from a tooth extraction, or you’re just missing teeth (it’s okay — more than 178 million American adults do!), dental implants are an excellent permanent solution.

What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are small titanium posts that are placed into your jawbone to act as a root structure for missing teeth. Once the implant has healed, a crown or a bridge will be placed over top of the implant to mimic the look of natural teeth.

Why Should I Choose Dental Implants Over Dentures?

Dental ImplantsAlthough the choice to get dental implants is uniquely up to each person, many people choose dental implants because they like that they are permanent, unlike dentures. Some advantages of dental implants include:

  • They can be brushed and cared for like natural teeth
  • They are more natural-looking and comfortable than dentures
  • They can prevent gum recession and bone loss
  • They are easier to eat, smile, and talk with
  • They can even be used in conjunction with dentures to ensure a perfect fit!

Types of Dental Implants

Your dentist may select one of several implant options:

Single tooth replacement: In a single tooth replacement, your dentist will use a one-piece implant that consists of an implant and a ceramic crown. Once your implant is installed, it’s there for life with no additional treatment needed. Learn more.

Multiple tooth replacement: If you are missing multiple teeth, your dentist will recommend a multiple tooth replacement, which consists of a fixed bridge attached to a dental implant. This procedure will typically take 4-5 office visits. Learn more.

Full arch replacement: If you are missing all of your teeth, your dentist will perform a full arch replacement: a fixed bridge attached to dental implants. Unlike dentures, these bridges are permanent and look and feel like your natural teeth. Learn more.
